Let the fun begin!

The school year has started and REC has followed right along with homework support for our Middle and High School students. Tutoring for our Elementary students will begin on August 28th. Read ahead to see what's new...
A New Face and a New Space

REC is happy to welcome Alissa Brown as our new High School Program Manager.

Alissa came to REC last year through CMU's work study program. She is a senior at CMU where she is working on a degree in Sociology with a minor in Social Work. Alissa faced many of the challenges growing up that are faced by REC's students, so she comes to the program with an enthusiasm to lead our kids toward successful futures. We're delighted to have her join our staff!

REC is also excited and grateful for the new High School Program space CMU has generously provided on their campus!

The lecture hall/computer lab in Escalante Hall is the perfect space for REC's students to work on homework together. And an added benefit for REC is the exposure our students get to higher education by studying on a university campus. THANK YOU CMU!

And, THANK YOU School District 51 for providing transportation for our students from Grand Junction, Central and Palisade High Schools.

YOU , TOO, CAN HELP US in our mission of impacting the youth of Grand Junction in a positive way by using the button below to donate to REC today.

THANK YOU for your support!
Make a difference in a child's life - Volunteer at REC!

All it takes is participation in a 90-minute training session and tutoring one night per week from 4:10 to 5:30 PM.

REC provides tutor support with structured, individualized lesson plans and materials for each tutor's student. Students range from Kinder to 5th grades - you tell us what age group you prefer. REC aims for a Tutor/Student ratio of 2 to 1, but often it is 1 to 1.

So come join in the fun!

Contact Leslie Eslava at 970-462-2901 or Leslie@REC4kids.com to sign up for a training session.

Or, click on the Volunteer at REC button below to find an application form. Training dates and times can also be found on the REC website.

We'd like to give a special thanks to JD Clifford. In an effort to earn his Eagle Scout award, JD collected school supplies for REC. Thank you, JD and congratulations on your award!

Friends, Food and Fun!
Get Ready for
REC's 8th Annual Taste of Riverside!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 14th.

REC's annual fundraiser draws folks from all over the Valley to sample authentic Mexican food made by our Riverside moms. The evening includes a silent auction and live entertainment, and all proceeds support the services REC provides to qualifying students in Grand Junction.
This is your opportunity to assist REC in its mission to serve our community by impacting kids who need it most.

Gain some visibility for your business by donating a Silent Auction item or by taking advantage of any of several levels of Sponsorship.

Definitely consider sponsoring a table for you and five of your friends to enjoy the evening!

To become a sponsor or for more information,

Introducing REC's Legacy Board

When a REC Board Member completes their allowed time on the Board, REC loses more than just a board member. We lose the assets that person brings to the Board - their knowledge and expertise, their enthusiasm for REC's mission, and their understanding of our program.

In an effort to stay connected to past board members who want to continue playing a role in REC's future, we are happy to introduce the Riverside Educational Center LEGACY BOARD:

Blanca Saenz

Mary Beth Buescher

Jay Seaton

Tim Pollard

Dave Patterson

Jill Waugh

Thanks to all of you for continuing to give of your time to REC!

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
Nelson Mandela

Thank you for being part of the REC family and helping us make a difference in our community! We're looking forward to a successful 2017-18!
